What is an E-bike and how does it work?

An e-bike is a normal bike but with all the bells and whistles and more. They aremade up of a BMS, a controller, a display, a battery, a motor and a whole lot of wires. All legal ebike are PA (Pedal assist) meaning that you need to turn over the pedals in order to get any type of assistance.

But here is where things start to get interesting. The motor plays a vital role in how the pedal assist works. There are front, rear and mid hub motors and all have a different sensation and functionality. You can images for example that a front hub motor will give you the feeling of being pulled while the rear motor gives the feeling of being pushed.

But where the technology is heading is the mid hub motor where it gives you the feeling that the power is coming straight from your own legs. And this is what avid bike riders understand more.

Then we have two different type of sensors. A cadence and a torque sensor. The cadence sensor allows you to fake pedal if you choose to do so, giving you 100% boost. Whilst the torque sensor works with you determining how much pressure you are putting in, then the e-bike provides with enough assistance to tackle whatever you throw at it.

So if you are being lazy the ebike will also be lazy. If you start to push the limits the mid motor will be there 100% of the time. The biggest difference between the two is the range. Any mid motor will make you go further.
