Do I need a license or registration to ride an electric bike?

No you do not need a license when the electric bike motor does not exceed 250 watts.  They are classified as a bicycle and do not require registration and motor vehicle insurance.


Do I need to wear a helmet?

Yes you need to wear an Australian approved bicycle helmet.


How do I recharge the battery?

Each electric bike comes with a battery charger.  One end is plugged into the battery inlet and the other end is plugged into a standard power point.


How long does it take to recharge the battery?

If the battery is fully flat it will generally take between 5 and 6 hours to fully charge.


Do I need to wait for the battery to go fully flat before I charge it?

No you can charge after each use if you wish.  If the battery is half flat then it will take between 2 to 3 hours to fully charge again.


Does the battery recharge when riding?

No you need to use the battery charger to recharge your battery.


How long will the batteries last?

Lithium batteries will last up to 1000 charges depending how you look after them. Ensure they do not go unused for periods longer than 5-6 weeks, always keep them charged up. They will not last long if left unused and not kept charged.


How far will the electric bike travel between chargers?

This depends on the model of electric bike, battery type and many other factors.  Typically you will travel between 40 and 90 kilometres when the battery is fully charged (depending on the amperage of the battery).  Distance will also vary depending on the weight of the rider, hilly conditions, number of stops, riding speed and whether you are doing any pedaling and what mode of pedal assistance you are using.


Can the electric bike be ridden like a normal bicycle?

Yes the choice is up to you.  You can simply use the throttle (for models that have a throttle) or use the pedals.  Or you can use a combination of pedal and throttle.


What maintenance is needed?

The electric motor does not require any servicing.  Other than charging the battery We recommend that electric bikes are serviced once per year.
